A protective order is a court order intended to protect a person from certain acts of violence, threats, stalking, or other prohibited conduct. Depending on the circumstances, a protective order may restrict a person’s contact with another person or prohibit the person from going to certain locations. Violating a protective order can result in additional criminal defense consequences.
