A field sobriety test is a series of physical and/or mental exercises that a law enforcement officer may use during a traffic stop to look for signs of possible impairment. Common standardized field sobriety tests include the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, the Walk-and-Turn, and the One-Leg Stand. Field sobriety tests are not the same as a chemical test of a person’s alcohol concentration.
